Traditional Bed and Breakfast

Strahan Tasmania

HARRISON HOUSE

Built circa 1899 Harrison House is a traditional guest house offering hosted bed and breakfast accommodation.  Located a short stroll from the historic township of Strahan the House is convenient to most tourist attractions and with an acre of gardens provides a tranquil and relaxing environment.

One of the earliest photos of the House shows it sitting atop the hill overlooking the newly built and prosperous township of Strahan. It was then in the early 1900’s, C.W Risby resided in the House before it was owned by a series of local families.

Lovingly restored and renovated by current owners the House offers boutique style accommodation in spacious King Rooms with modern private Ensuite bathrooms and a scrumptious home cooked breakfast to start the day.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

Your hosts Ken and Jo-Ann Elliott purchased the House in 2017 after visiting Strahan and simply falling in love with the town, the House and its surrounds.  Having always enjoyed staying in traditional Bed and Breakfasts or Guest Houses we envisioned ourselves one day owning and operating one.  We were just looking for the right house and town to make our dream a reality and once we spent time in this gorgeous part of the world knew we need look no further.

Ken is a builder by trade and undertook the renovations to bring this Grand Old Lady back to her former beauty assisted eagerly by Jo.  The doors and woodwork in the House was removed, stripped and restored so the house retained its original character.  Every care has been taken to look after any original pieces and the décor selected to highlight the beauty of the House.  As the cleaning, rectifying and building projects are done we now look forward to adding the personality which we hope our guests will also add input and inspiration.

One of the big highlights of Harrison House for us was, and continues to be, the beautiful gardens.  Many of the trees and shrubs were established decades ago and we were delighted to find our very own Huon Pine. Our next big project is to add to the beauty of these gardens which we have started with the addition of a King Billy Pine.

We both enjoy food, good wine and conversation and want to make your stay warm and relaxing.  We look forward to sharing our House and Gardens with you and would love to hear your story too.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU
